Ivan Epstein’s Presentation

Tales From The Trenches

Ivan Epstein, Guest Speaker at the 2011 ThinkSales Sales Leadership Conference

Key points to remember:

  • How do you get people to join you when you have done nothing and have no track record? You need to get people to believe in you.
  • And to do that, first you need to believe in yourself. If you believe in yourself, other people will too.
  • Don’t listen to failure stats. If you go into a deal believing that only a small percentage of deals are closed, you won’t close. Success starts with you.
  • You will experience trial and error. But if you believe in yourself and the future, you will get there.
  • Don’t be aloof as a manager – your employees will feel it.
  • The principle of humility: it’s as important to treat suppliers well as it is to treat clients well.
  • Suppliers are also key to sales: your suppliers help you deliver.

Vision without execution is hallucination

  • Trust your gut. If you really feel something, trust it. And the more experienced you become, the better your gut will be at recognising situations.
  • If you are passionate, success will follow.
  • Never take colleagues for granted. If you work in a team, you are there to work together and help each other.
